LSU alum and world No. 5-ranked Neal Skupski advanced to the doubles U.S. Open final set of Saturday with Christian Harrison after a straight-set win over No. 1 seed Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara on Thursday.
Skupski, a native of Liverpool England, and Harrison, who is from Shreveport, will be looking for their first U.S. Open title. They will meeet Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz of Germany at 11 a.m. Saturday at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York, on ESPN+.
Skupski was the first LSU freshman to earn All-America honors in men’s tennis in 2008 and earned that four times during his LSU career – twice in singles and twice in doubles. He also was named All-SEC five times and reached a No. 4 doubles rankings with Michael Venus in 2009.
Skupski’s brother, Ken Skupski, played for LSU from 2003 to 2007.
On the pro tour, Neal Skupski first reached the doubles ATP world No. 1 in 2022. In January of this year, he reclaimed the top spot after his Australian Open title, moving his Grand Slam title mark to four. Previously, Skupski captured three consecutive titles on his home courts at Wimbledon. He logged back-to-back mixed doubles titles (2021, 2022) before returning to Centre Court to deliver his first Men’s Doubles title (2023). After finishing as the runner-up last year, the former Tiger aims to take home his fifth major championship and his first in New York.
