Call it the 10-minute drill.
Reporters were allowed to watch two early periods of practice on Thursday night for about 12 minutes in all, and quarterback Sam Leavitt stole the show.
The redshirt junior transfer from Arizona State missed a deep ball to true freshman wide receiver Corey Barber and a short pass, but he completed every other throw. Now, there were no defenders during these periods, but he did complete 13 of 15 passes, including a nice deep route to sophomore transfer wide receiver Winnie Watkins, formerly of Ole Miss.
LSU’s only returning receiver, redshirt freshman Phillip Wright III of Destrehan High in the New Orleans area, made one of the more impressive catches of the day on a pass from redshirt freshman quarterback Husan Longstreet.

On defense, true freshman Richard Anderson got a shot on the first team at tackle over Auburn junior transfer Malik Blocton, who was on first team on Wednesday. The other tackle was true freshman Deuce Geralds for the second straight day. Blocton and Stephiylan Green, a junior transfer from Clemson, were the No. 2 defensive tackles.
Junior Dominick McKinley, a five-star signee from Acadiana High in Lafayette in 2024, remained at third team tackle, but got a look at defensive end.
Senior Ole Miss transfer Princewill Umanmielen and junior Tennessee transfer Jordan Ross remained as the No. 1 edge rushers with true freshman Lamar Brown and junior Dylan Carpenter on the second team.
Redshirt freshman Jhase Thomas and senior Boise State transfer Ty Benefield stayed at the first team safeties.
WHAT’S NEXT? LSU will have a walk-through practice on Friday only before a 10 a.m. practice on Saturday that is open to reporters. After an off day Sunday, LSU coach Lane Kiffin and players will be available for interviews after a morning practice.
