LSU juniors Cam Sanders and Hunter Feduccia selected in 12 round of MLB Draft

The first two days of the MLB Draft came and went without two LSU players coming off the board.

Two Tigers heard their names called within a span on six picks in the 12th round on Wednesday morning.

Right-handed pitcher Cam Sanders went No. 368 to the Chicago Cubs and catcher Hunter Feduccia went No. 374 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both are juniors who came to LSU from junior colleges and are expected to sign professionally.

Sanders struggled with his control for much of the season before emerging as an electric revelation in the postseason. He allowed three runs over 13.1 innings across four postseason appearances.

Feduccia began the season as LSU’s everyday catcher before seemingly losing the job to senior Nick Coomes down the stretch. He hit .233 this season and has a strong throwing arm, though he struggled at times with pass balls.

JAKE SLAUGHTER CHICAGO BOUND, TOO

It seems that Alex Lange laid the groundwork for quite the LSU-to-Chicago pipeline when the Cubs selected him in the first round last season.

Chicago selected their second LSU player of day three when it took infielder Jake Slaughter in the 18th round, making his selection No. 548 overall.

Slaughter has been an inconsistent player in two seasons at LSU, but he’s got power and athleticism, and he played the best baseball of his collegiate career down the stretch this season.

It was expected before the draft that he’ll sign professionally, though his status as a draft eligible sophomore does afford him more leverage should he decide to return to school for his junior season.
