1ST INNING

Top: Quick inning for Cody Glenn. He stabs comebackers from both Strong and McHugh, and induced a fly ball to LF from Wood. 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base Purdue 0, LSU 0

Bottom: McMullen leads things off with an infield single. It was a chopper down the first base line, and the first baseman was eaten alive by a weird hop ... Mark Laird bunt single ... Alex Bregman bunt single to load the bases ... Conner Hale rips a single into LF to score McMullen ... Kade Scivicque pops up to 1st base ... Stevenson hits one just deep enough to score Laird from first ... Moore flies out to LF. 2 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base Purdue 0, LSU 2

2ND INNING

Top: Kyle Upp singles up the middle to start the inning ... Kyle Johnson hits a chopper up the middle. Hale ranges over and makes a nice flip across his body to Bregman for the force out at second ... Conner Hudnall deposits one in the bleachers in right field to tie things up ... Jack Amaro strikes out ... Steve Maniago strikes out. 2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base Purdue 2, LSU 2

Bottom: Chinea grounds out to third ... Zardon grounds out to third ... McMullen flies out to LF. 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base Purdue 2, LSU 2

3RD INNING

Top: Krieg grounds out to Bregman ... Strong lines out to Bregman ... McHugh sends a double to LCF ... Glenn plunks Wood to give the Boilermakers runners at 1st and 2nd ... Kyle Upp grounds out to Zardon to end the inning. 0 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base Purdue 2, LSU 2

Bottom: Laird singles to LF ... Bregman lines one hard at the second baseman, who doubles up Laird at first ... Hale yanks a curveball over to third base. The throw is high and the first baseman tries to bring down a tag on Hale, but Hale slid. Error on the third baseman ... 4TH INNING

McMullen made a poor throw back to the infield and Amaro took third base ... Krieg flies out to Hale. 0 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base Purdue 2, LSU 2

Bottom: Stevenson draws a leadoff walk ... Here comes LHP Kyle Wood, also the DH, to replace Podkul on the mound ... Moore bunts Stevenson over ... Chinea drills a double to RCF to score Stevenson ... Zardon struck out looking as Wood painted the outside corner with what looked to be a changeup ... McMullen flew out to CF. 1 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base Purdue 2, LSU 3

5TH INNING

Top: Alden Cartwright is the new pitcher. Glenn went four innings, allowed four hits, two runs and struck out two. Not his best start, but not his worst either. Hard to see him in a starting role next weekend though ... Strong grounds out to Moore ... McHugh lines out to Bregman .... Wood flies out to deep RCF. 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base Purdue 2, LSU 3

Bottom: Laird sends a screamer back up the box that skips into CF for a leadoff single ... Bregman chops one up the middle that finds a way between both the SS and 2B's glove for a single. Laird motors all the way to third on the play, Bregman takes second ... Hale plates Laird with a sharp groundout to SS. Bregman takes third ... Scivicque hammers a single into LF to score Bregman ... Stevenson lines a triple into RF to score Scivicque ... New pitcher is RHP Joe Eichmann ... On the first pitch, LSU tries a suicide squeeze. Moore doesn't get it much out in front of the plate, and Stevenson is toast at home. Adding insult to injury, Moore is then doubled off at 1st. 3 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base Purdue 2, LSU 6

6TH INNING

Top: Cartwright stays in the game and strikes out two batters to open the inning. That'll be all as LHP Zac Person comes in to face the LH hitting Hudnall ... Hudnall singles up the middle ... Amaro lines out to 2B. 0 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base Purdue 2, LSU 6

Bottom: Chinea flew out to CF ... Zardon flew out to RF ... McMullen flew out to RF. 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base Purdue 2, LSU 6

7TH INNING

Maniago and Krieg each steal a base as LSU doesn't try for the out ... Cody Strong hits a sacrifice fly to RF ... Sean McHugh lines into an inning-ending double play. He hit it right at Hale, and Krieg had wandered a bit too far off the bag. 1 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base Purdue 3, LSU 6

Bottom: Laird walks ... Bregman flies out to RF ... Hit and run, Hale smashes one to the left side, but Maniago makes a really nice snag. Laird tries to stop and turn back, but he falls down and the back end of the double play is an easy one. 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base Purdue 3, LSU 6

PREGAME
Daylight Saving Time got the better of me, so let's keep this short and sweet.

LSU's going for the sweep today with Cody Glenn on the mound. This is a big start for Glenn, though I'm not sure even a dominant outing would be enough for him to make his way back into the weekend rotation. If this is truly a competition as coach Paul Mainieri says it is, Glenn is in the back of the pack.

Conner Hale is back in the starting lineup at cleanup, and Sean McMullen is back in the leadoff spot. Christian Ibarra is being given the day off, Mainieri put all three of his catchers in the lineup and Danny Zardon is being given his third start of the season at third base. Here are the lineups.

LSU (13-2)
  1. Sean McMullen, LF (.311)
  2. Mark Laird, RF (.297)
  3. Alex Bregman, SS (.423)
  4. Conner Hale, 2B (.347)
  5. Kade Scivicque, C (.450)
  6. Andrew Stevenson, CF (.419)
  7. Tyler Moore, 1B (.303)
  8. Chris Chinea, C (.167)
  9. Danny Zardon, 3B (.286)
SP - LHP Cody Glenn (1-1, 4.80 ERA, 15 IP, 8 K, 2 BB)

PURDUE (1-9)
  1. Cody Strong, 2B (.138)
  2. Sean McHugh, C (.263)
  3. Kyle Wood, DH (.306)
  4. Kyle Upp, RF (.238)
  5. Kyle Johnson, CF (.143)
  6. Conner Hudnall, LF (.184)
  7. Jack Amaro, LF (.375)
  8. Steve Maniago, 3B (.200)
  9. Brandon Krieg, SS (.086)
SP - RHP Connor Podkul (0-1, 27.00 ERA, 2 IP, 0 K, 4 BB)
