LISTEN IN: Joe Fisher
Vanderbilt announcer talks about the Commodores
Tiger Rag News Services
During this week’s edition of Tiger Rag Radio, Louisiana Radio Network news director Jeff Palermo of the Tiger Rag family visited with Joe Fisher, the veteran play-by-play announcer for Vanderbilt Commodores athletics.
Fisher talked about the unexpected retirement last week of Bobby Johnson as Vanderbilt’s football coach and the naming of Robbie Caldwell as interim coach of the Commodores.
(Side note: Caldwell and Vanderbilt are on the agenda today at SEC Media Days. The coach will be joined by linebacker Chris Marve, running back Warren Norman and linebacker John Stokes.)
Caldwell, who followed Johnson from Furman to Vanderbilt after the 2001 season, is essentially embarking upon a one-season audition to have the word “interim” removed from his job title, Fisher said.
The Vanderbilt announcer also talked with Palermo about the highlights of Johnson’s time in Nashville, including the Commodores’ first bowl victory since 1955 (2008 Music City Bowl) and having several players make it to the NFL. Other topics included Caldwell, his personality, his Southern drawl and much more.
