CFB guru weighs in on LSU, 2010 season

By CARL DUBOIS
Tiger Rag Associate Editor

Every serious college football fan knows the name Phil Steele. Yes, that’s the man behind Phil Steele’s 2010 College Football Preview, this year’s version of the annual preseason magazine crammed with statistical analysis, special features, rankings and much more.

This week’s edition of Tiger Rag Radio included a compelling segment with Steele, who was kind enough to share his thoughts on LSU and the coming season. Check out the audio link below to hear Tiger Rag Editor Ben Love and co-host Jeff Palermo interviewing Steele.

Asked if he thought the Tigers could match last year’s victory total of nine, Steele said North Carolina and Alabama are key opponents for LSU toward that end. He said he expects better stats from LSU this year and a shot at nine wins, but he stopped short of predicting nine wins for the Tigers.

Steele said there’s good talent on board. His ratings list LSU with the No. 10 group of wide receivers nationally, the No. 22 defensive line, the No. 12 group of defensive backs and the No. 16-ranked special teams.

His concerns about the Tigers are significant. LSU, he said, has the second-fewest returning starters in the SEC, returning the players who accounted for only 47 percent of the tackles in 2009 and 63 percent of the offensive yards.

Steele also gave his opinion on other SEC teams. His magazine is available on newsstands, and the July 20 issue of Tiger Rag will include a preseason football magazine survey that includes highlights of his predictions for 2010. You can also check out his Web site, Philsteele.com.

Phil Steel Cristal ball, with his floating statistical pictures about the coming college football year, do not seem to be telling me anything that I believe.
I think that his statistical analysis could mean nothing more then what they really are, statistical records of what happened last year.I think he is full of bull, and he knows it,and he is just trying to run some-kind of hustle, that help him get attentions in the college sports world…He does not really want us to take him serious, does he?

Got something to say?
