National Signing Day is just over a week away and the chances of LSU landing not only one of the best recruiting classes in school history, but also in the history of college football is nearing a reality.

Baton Rouge welcomed over a dozen visitors this past weekend and while most of which were already committed to LSU there were others still browsing around. Although Chris Faulk (6-6, 305) gave his pledge to the Tigers back in May it has not deterred him away from the recruiting scene.

Faulk was a familiar face to visiting recruits at most of LSU’s 2008 home football games and this weekend was no different.

“It was nice,” Faulk said describing his recent visit to Baton Rouge. “I had a good time. I knew just about everyone there so I was trying to talk a few of the guys that haven’t decided yet to come to LSU.

“I was talking to Trent Richardson and Rueben Randle trying to get them to come here (LSU),” Faulk continued. “It looked like they were having a good time, but it is still the same thing with them. They’re undecided and waiting until Signing Day to make their decisions. I also talked to Bennie Logan and Sam Montgomery. Bennie was quieter than Rueben! And Sam was like another Chris Davenport. He’d talk to anybody.”

Faulk claimed the only difference between Montgomery and Davenport was their chances of pursuing a career in singing.

“I was at an All-American dinner in Baton Rouge and Chris sang a little piece he likes to sing,” Faulk said with a laugh. “Whenever we’re together he’s singing and walking. It’s great to have guys like that, with character coming into this class. It’s like a family, I can’t wait.”

Unfortunately waiting is something the Northshore High School product will have to do before he is able to workout again as he suffered an arm injury in the U.S Army All-American game a couple of weeks ago.

“I got a small fracture in my forearm during the fourth-quarter of the All-American game,” Faulk explained. “I was going to make a block on Jarvis Jones who was wearing a cast and that is when it happened. I stayed in and played like the next five plays, but it was hurting so I came out and that’s when we realized I had broken it.

“I’ll be able to take my cast off in a couple of weeks,” Faulk added. “So lately I’ve just been running because I cannot workout. Once I get my cast off though I’m going to have to seriously start working out because the coaches gave me a workout plan. They want me to be benching 400-pounds, squatting 500-pounds, and cleaning 300-pounds. I’m pretty close reaching all of those weights right now.”

The injury was obviously a letdown for the Louisiana All-State offensive lineman because his workout routine will suffer a delay, but he recently received an award that boosted his spirits.

“Last week I was named to the Parade All-American team,” Faulk concluded. “It was an honor. I never thought I would have ever done that. It made me happy to achieve something that big for being just an offensive tackle.”
