For some running backs, the number of yards and the amount of touchdowns are all that matter.
They just hope for the opportunity to reach the end-zone so they can celebrate. For Lache Seastrunk (5-10, 185, 4.4) there is so much more to it than that.
The four-star running back takes as much pride in his personal statistics as he does in the numbers that cannot be seen. For example, like when he is pass blocking for his quarterback to provide an extra second or two for him to get the ball down field or when he is analyzing his team’s playbook so he can be a step ahead of everyone else on the field.
“All of that matters a lot to me because I want to be the greatest of all time,” Seastrunk claimed. “I do not want to be just a good player, I want to be a complete player. In order to achieve that, I have to tweak myself. I’m worried about every aspect of the game.”
Seastrunk’s work ethic on the practice field and the time he has spent in the playbook can be seen through the numbers he has put up during his career at Temple High School. Last season he tallied 1,403 yards rushing while scoring 14 touchdowns. The year prior, he gained1,600 yards including 22 touchdowns.
As if that were not enough, his devotion to becoming the greatest can also be seen through his offer sheet. Although Seastrunk is listed as a junior, he has offers that some seniors wished they possessed in universities such as LSU, USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan, etc.
He was also one of the ten juniors to receive an early invitation to participate in next year’s U.S Army All-American Bowl. And through it all, Seastrunk has remained humble and as hungry as ever.
“Honestly, I couldn’t tell you what offers I have or how many because I do not pay attention to that stuff,” Seastrunk admitted. “I look at it all as a blessing and I know it’s something that can easily be taken away from me. It’s something I do not take for granted.
“I’m thankful to God for giving me the gifts that I have and also for providing me with a good family that has supported me along the way,” Seastrunk added. “Without that I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today.”
Seastrunk has put himself in the position to where he will be able to hand-pick the university of his choosing. According to him, there is criteria that must first be met before he signs his name anywhere.
“Academics most of all,” Seastrunk confirmed as his main attraction in a school. “I want my degree because I know I might not always be playing football and I’d like to have my degree to fall back on.
“I’m going to be looking at the tradition and the prestige of the school as well,” Seastrunk continued. “I’m also going to look at the coach. I want to see what he teaches his players and what he could teach me.”
What about getting to play with his cousin and Thibodeaux High School product Trovon Reed?
That’s my brother,” Seastrunk exclaimed. “If we were on the same team in college, defenses would have to play honest against us. It would be great to play with him.”
