As LSU draws nearer to ending its class of 2009 it has already begun to focus on next year’s class. One of the prospects on the Tigers’ early list of 2010 is four-Star receiver Trovon Reed (6-0, 172,4.5).
The Thibodeaux High School product possessed offers from Oregon, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Georgia before recently adding an Auburn offer to his list as well. Reed takes honor in receiving such prestigious early offers, but claims he has a lot to investigate before coming close to making a decision.
“I think it’s cool that I have offers already, but I think I’m probably going to wait it out before I make my decision,” Reed admitted. “I know it will be a decision of a lifetime for me and I do not want to mess it up.
“I didn’t really have a favorite team growing up, but since I’ve been in high school I’ve followed West Virginia pretty closely,” Reed added. ‘I liked the way they used Pat White. Everyone is even right now with me though. I’m giving every school a fair chance and in the end I’m going to go to the place where I feel the most comfortable.”
Two campuses Reed will be paying visits to within the next month are to LSU and to Texas for their Junior Days. Coincidentally, those are also two of the schools that have also shown interest in his cousin Lache Seastrunk. It is rumored both of the 2010 prospects plan on attending college together.
“Yeah, that is something we’d like to do,” Reed confirmed. “I think it would be great! Teams wouldn’t know how to cover us because we’d have Lache coming out of the backfield and then I’d be at wide-out. We’re going to try to do it.”
Reed and his cousin shared some time together at the U.S Army All-American junior combine a couple of weeks ago. Reed claimed he was impressed with the talent that was on hand.
“It was nice,” Reed stated. “Everybody was competing. That was my first time being around guys like that who were that good. I did good though. I think I performed as well as they did.
“They (the coaches) really didn’t teach us anything over there,” Reed continued. “They kind of just put us out there and let us showcase what we could do. I think I did good in everything, but you can always do better.”
Since the All-American combine Reed has been competing on the hardwood for his high school basketball team. Reed claimed to have some skills on the court as well.
“We’re 19-3 right now and we’re trying to win the district championship,” Reed concluded. “I think I’m better at football, but I can ball! I don’t have any basketball offers right now, but if I would get any, they would probably be from smaller schools.”
Note: As a junior Reed earned First Team All-District and First Team All-State honors for his efforts on the gridiron. He passed for 694 yards and 10 touchdowns, rushed for 746 yards and 10 touchdowns, and racked up 344 yards receiving with another score.
