The time has officially come for four-star safety Darren Myles Jr. to begin focusing on where he will be spending the next four years of his life.
Myles tenatively delayed his recruitment so he could focus on his Carver High School team’s football season, but that ended last weekend as his team suffered a heart-breaking loss in the first-round of the playoffs, 33-0.
“We made it to the first round of the playoffs and we played Ridgeland,” Myles explained. “It seemed like we had just gotten back on our feet after a rough start and then they caught us. I don’t even know what happened to be honest with you. I do not think they won because they were that much better than us. I guess they just never let us get any momentum throughout the game.”

Myles can relate his team’s recent defeat to LSU’s recent letdowns and close scares. The 6-foot-2, 180-head hunter claimed the Tigers’ recent struggles have not cost them in his mind, but it is something worth mentioning to the coaches.
“LSU losing to Alabama didn’t really affect my interest in them,” Myles admitted. “But that will be a question I will ask coach [Les] Miles the next time I speak to him. I’m going to ask him why they’ve been falling short in games and why does it seem like they’ve been wating until the last minute before they try to play.”
Myles is the No. 6 rated safety in the nation by Rivals.com.
Waiting and remaining patient is something the standout safety has been doing all season long in regards to his recruitment. Up until this point he has had a grocery list full of teams on his mind, but now he claims to be down to just nine.
“I have my top teams and they are Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Ohio State, West Virginia, Auburn, and Purdue,” Myles confirmed. “I still have to discuss with my family which five schools will be getting my official visits though.”
“I’m not sure what I’ll be looking for in deciding the five,” Myles continued. “It’s something we’ll have to discuss. I already know all nine of these schools have the academics I’m looking for and that is why they made it this far. I want to major in Business because I would like to open up a sporting-goods store oneday.”
It may not be an official visit, but one school will be getting an unofficial vist as Myles will be in attendance for the Georgia Tech vs. Miami game Thursday night.
“I expect it to be a good game,” Myles said. “I think the game will come down to who has the better defense because I know both teams have good offenses.”
That will be Myles’ sixth unofficial visit of the year as he has already taken in visits to Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, and Georgia Tech. The time spent on campus was not enough for one coach however, and the skipper has made his best attempt to keep his program on Myles’ mind in hopes of receiving an official visit from Myles in the near future.
“I talked to coach Miles like two days ago,” Myles concluded. “We basically just asked each other how our days went and really we were just chatting about stuff away from recruiting because he already knows LSU is one of my top teams. We were just trying to get to know each other a little better.”
