Although LSU has played in nine games so far this season, one of its 2009 commitments had yet to see a game. That changed on Saturday afternoon as 4-star defensive lineman Joshua Downs (6′3, 267, 4.9) arrived in Baton Rouge with his head coach and teammate Rueben Randle for the battle between the Tigers and the Crimson Tide.
“It was a tough game,” Downs stated. “It was a good game too though. It was two good teams going at it. That’s exactly how I expected it to be, a nice, tight, tough game.”
Many fingers were being directed towards LSU’s quarterback Jarrett Lee as the reasoning for LSU’s loss. Downs though, being the true team player that he is, refused to put the blame on any one individual.
“I really couldn’t say that LSU’s quarterback was the difference in the game,” Downs said. “All I know is that people work hard and just try to do what they can to help the team win.”
For the first time this season, Downs was able to hang out with some of his future teammates as well as some promising ones.
“I had a good time at the game,” Downs expressed. “I got to hang out with Chris Davenport, Rueben (Randle), and another guy, but I forgot his name. It was kind of a laid back atmosphere between us.
“We really didn’t talk about recruiting any,” Downs added. “Before the game we talked more about what we expected the game to be like.”
And as for Randle, well Rueben was just being Rueben.
“Rueben was kind of quiet,” Downs informed. “He didn’t do too much talking. I guess that’s just kind of how he is.”
Finally, as mentioned by other recruits concerning the outcomes of previous LSU games, Downs said he could not speak for others, but he knew what the loss did to his commitment to the Tigers.
“It didn’t change my mind at all,” Downs concluded. “I’m going to LSU.”
