According to Rivals.com, Akiem Hicks (6′6, 295, 4.8) out of Sacramento Community College committed to LSU on Sunday evening. The 4-star defensive tackle’s verbal pledge came as a pleasant surprise for coach Les Miles after such a heart-breaking Saturday afternoon.

Hicks chose the Tigers over universities such as Arizona, Tennessee, Oregon, and South Florida amongst others. He claimed LSU’s environment on campus as well as the possibility of early playing were to be the biggest factors in his decision.

Hicks is scheduled to graduate during the spring of 2009 and will put on the purple and gold for the first time during the summer. Hicks commitment marked the 18th for LSU’s class of 2009.
