Although it will be quite some time before the class members of 2010 officially sign their names, it is not too early to begin talking about one of the class’s premier athletes.
Junior standout Trovon Reed (6-0, 170 ,4.4) does it all for his team as he plays quarterback, receiver, running back, and defensive back. His flexibility is what separates him from the pack and it is also why his team has had so much success this season.
Thibodeaux High School is currently undefeated (7-0, 5-0) under the leadership of Reed and he is looking to guide his team to a district championship over Terrebone (6-1,5-0) this Friday night.
“We’re approaching it like every other game,” Reed explained. “We’re not changing anything up because usually when you do that, that’s how you lose.
“It’s not what I think, it’s what happens on Friday night that matters,” Reed replied when asked for a prediction on his team’s upcoming game.
Reed may only be a junior, but his athleticism and leadership has already been discovered by a few major programs as he possesses offers from Arkansas, Georgia, and Ole Miss.
“It feels good having offers from those schools,” Reed expressed. “It kind of motivates you when you’re out there playing. I was surprised when I first got them. I was really amped up, but at the same time I wished my team could’ve been amped up too.”
Being a team player is something that is very important to the sensational athlete. His personal notoriety is something he refuses to place ahead of his teammates.
“I haven’t spoken to any of the LSU coaches, but I think they’ve been talking to my dad about me,” Reed explained. “I like LSU and I think they have a winning program, but I’m keeping my choices open for now.
“I’m not really thinking about recruiting right now,” Reed continued. “When I got those three offers I put them to the side because that is not what’s important right now. When I think about the team we have now and the potential we have heading into the playoffs, that’s what matters to me. I don’t want my head to get big or anything like that and that’s why I’ll deal with all of that recruiting stuff later.”
Reed was in attendance for the Georgia game and caught a glimpse of the Tulane game, but believes LSU’s showdown against the Crimson Tide this weekend will have the Tigers ready to play at another level.
“I think they (LSU) are going to get back on track,” Reed stated. “Everybody is going to have their ups and downs. You’re going to have on and off nights. That’s just how football goes.
“I expect it to be a good game this weekend, but I do not know who is going to win,” Reed concluded. “Alabama is coming into the game ranked really high so maybe that will be some motivation for LSU to get ranked back up there.”
