Outside of ESPN’s number-one prospect Russell Shepard, LSU’s second biggest supporter and promoter is big 6-foot-4, 320-pound, Chris Davenport.

Davenport is not afraid to spread the Tigers’ gospel to anyone who is willing to listen any chance he gets. Davenport has paid close attention to the Tigers play this season and if everything works out he will be on-hand for this weekend’s showdown against the Crimson Tide.

“I still love em’ to death,” Davenport responded when asked what he thought about LSU’s play in big games this season. “They just have young quarterbacks and a young secondary. I think once they get the young and the inexperience out of the way the team should be back to normal.

“I’m trying to get to Baton Rouge this weekend, but I’ll know more as the week goes along,” Davenport added. “I’m really looking forward to it because I’m expecting to see a good game.”

The Mansfield High School product also expected to see good games when the Tigers traveled to Gainesville and when they hosted the Bulldogs. Why should this weekend’s outcome be any different?

“I thought those games showed what you see week-in and week-out in the SEC,” Davenport replied. “The SEC is tough, but for the Florida game I think LSU didn’t show up. I don’t know why, but I really believe the team just didn’t show up. And in the Georgia game, we were beating ourselves up a lot with turnovers and mistakes.

“I really think we’re going to beat Alabama though,” Davenport continued. “I think we’re more physical than Alabama. Alabama has a lot of young guys and they have more speed now. It’s not the Alabama of old. The old Alabama used to be more about power. This Alabama team has speed and a little bit of power.”

Note: A few weeks ago Davenport returned to action for the first time this season after suffering a minor knee injury earlier in the year. He played in the last four games at nearly 100%, but claimed he was “just glad to be playing again.”
