There was as much at stake for the Tigers in the recruiting race as there was on the field at the Swamp on Saturday night.
Many recruits who are torn between the Tigers and the Gators were scheduled to be on hand for the SEC showdown.
One of the prospects who appears just as high on the Gators board as the Tigers is Jon Bostic (6-2, 225, 4.5) and the four-star linebacker was one of the recruits in attendance.
TigerRag.com caught up with the Palm Beach Central High School product to see what effect, if any, did the game have on his recruitment.
“I just got back in town like an hour ago,” Bostic said on Monday evening. “I was in Gainesville for the game. Going into the game I really didn’t know what to expect, but I did think it would be closer than what it was. I thought Florida would put pressure on LSU’s freshman quarterback and that’s one thing that Florida did.
Bostic is the No. 4 rated inside linebacker by Rivals.com and ranked No. 106th in ESPN.com’s Top 150.
“The game itself had a really good atmosphere to it,” Bostic added. “The whole night everybody was screaming. I spoke with almost all of the Florida coaches and I hung out with red-shirt freshman T.J. Lawrence (WR). Our parents are really close to each other.”
Now that the highly-touted recruit has had time to reflect on the game and his recruitment how much of an influence will the outcome of the game have on his final decision?
“I do not think it will have too much of an effect,” Bostic claimed. “LSU is still a good team and they still have good coaches. They are just kind of rebuilding right now and the quarterback situation is hurting them.
“I noticed when LSU came back to make the score 20-14, it looked like the quarterback started making quicker decisions instead of holding onto the ball. I think if LSU would have had Ryan Perrilloux that would have helped. He would have had a little more experience and could have probably made some things happen with his feet.”
Bostic admitted the is no closer to making a decision as he was prior to the LSU-Florida game.
“I’m still undecided,” Bostic confirmed. “I still have some places to visit like Florida State, LSU (Oct. 24th), and Clemson.”
Note: The Clemson visit was scheduled prior to Monday’s news of the firing of head coach Tommy Bowden. The news came as a shock to Bostic.
“Wow, I did not know that,” Bostic responded after being informed of the news. “I have no idea what’s going on between me and Clemson now. I was scheduled to take a visit there on Nov. 15 for their game against Duke. I’m going to have to talk to my dad about it now.”
Unlike Clemson’s football season, the recruiting campaign has not yet begun to unravel.
