LSU’s class of 2009 already contains one defensive tackle in All-State standout Chris Davenport. The Tigers’ staff would like to add another and it is likely the next commit will be from either Texas product JaMarkus McFarland or Louisiana’s own Darrington Sentimore (6′2.5, 266, 4.8).

Sentimore worked diligently over the summer to improve his G.P.A as well as his standardized test taking skills. Sentimore is confident his grades are in check and all that is left is an offer from the Tigers.

The Destrehan High School product was on hand as a visitor for LSU’s game versus Mississippi State. If all goes well the next time Sentimore steps foot inside of Tiger Stadium it will be as a member of the team.

“I’d been inside the stadium once before for one of LSU’s scrimmages, but that was my first time there for a game,”Sentimore stated. “I really liked it. I didn’t expect it to be like that. I wasn’t expecting to see those jets fly over the stadium either. That was nice.

“It was fun hanging out with some of the other recruits there too like Russell Shepard and Chris Davenport,” Sentimore added. “Those guys were saying how they wanted me to go there. I told them we just going to have to wait and see what happens.”

Sentimore is the 23rd rated defensive tackle in the nation by Rivals.com. ESPN.com has Sentimore listed as the No. 18 tackle.

Sentimore has kept in-touch with the Tigers’ staff since day one. It has always been a matter of getting his grades in line before an offer would appear. According to the 4-star lineman grades are no longer a problem.

“Some of the LSU coaches are supposed to be coming to my game tomorrow (Friday),” Sentimore explained. “They said they wanted to check on my grades and see how I play in the game. I don’t know if they’re going to offer me, but I know they’re coming.”

Sentimore recorded 20 tackles and 2 sacks in last week’s game against Higgins High School. Is it going to be any different this week going up against John Ehret High School knowing the Tigers’ eyes will be watching from the stands?

“Oh yeah,” Sentimore replied. “I’m going to bust my tail tomorrow night and I know I can match those numbers from last week.”

So what separates Sentimore from the other defensive lineman in this year’s class?

“I understand football,” Sentimore concluded. “And I have a good coach too. Not many players are lucky enough to have a good defensive-line coach, but I have one.”
