The LSU campus welcomed many recruits over the weekend to join in for the Mississippi State festivities. The Tigers’ coaches, players, and fans offered their best attempts in persuading the recruits to hand over their signatures in February.
One of the visitors on the VIP list was Seminole High School product Andre Debose (6′0, 175, 4.4). It was not Debose’s first visit to Baton Rouge, but it was a memorable one.
“It was a nice trip,” Debose admitted. “I enjoyed everything. I couldn’t believe people recognized me and knew who I was. That was the one thing that really stood out to me. People were calling my name and stuff. It just showed me how much LSU’s fans are into their football team.”
LSU walked away from the game with a 34-24 victory over the Bulldogs while a bunch of other highly ranked teams such as Georgia, Florida, and Wake Forest fell earlier in the day.
Russell Shepard claimed sometimes the upsets have an affect on a recruits mindset in the recruiting game. Is that the case for Debose?
“No, not at all,” Debose answered. “LSU winning and other teams like Florida being upset will have nothing to do with my decision. As long as the team is winning when I get there is all I am worried about. I’m more concerned about the depth chart and the offensive players right now.”
One of the things that caught the 5-star receiver by surprise was something he was not anticipating.
“I’ve been to LSU before and I’ve spoken to the coaches so much that I was pretty familiar with everything already,” Debose admitted. “But Tiger Stadium was way different that anything I’ve seen before. The way the fans were and how they were chanting was so tight! I like the way they were bobbing their hands and stuff during their chants.”
While taking in the game and the excitement there was someone standing by his side. Someone that was making sure Debose got the full effect of Tiger mania.
“Russell (Shepard) knew how to come at me,” Debose stated. “He wasn’t trying to persuade me or anything because he knows I’m going to look at it how I want to look at it no matter what he says.”
So how did Debose look at it. With 10 being the best, what did Debose give his trip to Death Valley?
“I give the game itself a nine because of the excitement of the game and the crowd,” Debose replied. “I’ve been to LSU before so I’ve seen just about everything else so I give the rest of the trip like an eight.”
Was the trip good enough to warrant another visit from the Floridian?
“I know I’m taking a visit to Georgia,” Debose stated. “I’ve still got to check them out. Then I know I’m taking an unofficial to Alabama.
“I’m also trying to decide if I’ll take my official visit to LSU for another game during the season or after the season,” Debose concluded. That’s something I still have to look into, but I know I’ll be back.”
