Baton Rouge Advocate reporter/columnist talks LSU’s bowl loss on TR Radio
By RICHARD FISCHER
Tiger Rag Associate Editor
On the heels of LSU’s one-point collapse to Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, Les East of the Baton Rouge Advocate joined Jeff Palermo and Richard Fischer on Tiger Rag Radio Tuesday night.
He was in the Georgia Dome covering the game after spending bowl week in Atlanta covering the Tigers.
Clemson outscored LSU 12-0 in the fourth quarter Monday and outgained the Bayou Bengals 169 yards to one.
“It was a real tough loss, and I’m going to touch on this in my column in tomorrow’s paper (CLICK HERE for Les’ column). This game was so much like the whole [of the season]. There were times where they looked really good and looked like they had the game in hand. Yet as we’ve seen so many times this season they just didn’t have the ability to finish teams off. Sometimes they let teams come back and score late and make things tight and wound up winning. But last night was kinda like the Alabama game where they just let it get away late. It looked like they really had a chance to put the game away, and I just think it was like the Alabama game, it was like the season this year. When they had the chance to do something really special, they let it slip through their fingers, and that’s what happened in the fourth quarter last night.”
Les went on to break the game down in greater detail. He also talked about how LSU stacks up next year and whether this loss will affect the Tigers in their offseason prep for 2013.

I was in Atlanta and we just didn’t get in done in the 4th quarter. In sports they say “You just can’t win them all”! LSU is still a great team and 10 wins is something a lot of teams would love to have. Geaux Tigers!!!!
Everyone seems to be getting very tired of the excuses made over Les Miles head coaching ability by the Les Miles supporters over the years. The LSU football fans have been very disappointment, as they keep watching him coach the LSU fighting tiger college football program into one heartbreak after another, these past lone eight years. At what point will they simply just turn off all together?
1/2/2013 “Tom” Brokaw” on the MSNBC morning show told Joe Scarborough that LSU Les Miles can’t coach. because of the way LSU messed up the last LSU drive with 2 minutes left against the Clemson tigers in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. “That Les Miles is a very bad coach.” We the LSU tiger football program - are a disgrace to the nation…Good Grief!”

My Goodness
Tom Brokaw, the renowned sports expert. Well he would certainly know what he’s talking about. He has coached, hmmmmm, how many teams again?
truth is, LSU and the offensive line in particular, did not execute or play to their potential. The defense played well, but the offensive line could not block Clemson and LSU lost. The injuries in the offensive line and the play of a redshirt freshman and true freshman were exploited by Clemson. End of story.
Txtigerfan: Les Miles is putting on a Flash dance that is more suited for late night television shows and not college football. Jessica Simpson keep flashing her double D breast every chance she gets, taking a picture. That’s what keep selling her image to the American public. Because there is a lot of money to be made selling big breast in show business.
Les Miles has turned Louisiana State University into a sleaze bourbon street strip joint, with Les Miles as the door barker, quickly opening and shutting the front door. Giving the side walk public walking outside, a quick view of the naked girls flash dancing going on inside. Les Miles can’t coach college football. He is simply a con man getting richer and richer on false pretenses. Something must be done about this terrible turn of faith at Louisiana State University. Someone please save the LSU fight tiger football program before we all start getting very embarrassed?
What happened to our running game? Jeremy Hill, proved that he could bust through their line for big yards! But yet ya’ll used him, sparingly. 2nd & 3rd, & 2, we pass the ball??? Please explain this to me? We could’ve & should’ve pounded Clemson by running the ball down their throats, all night long & let the running game open up the passing game!!! Dah… that’s offensive 101!!! So, the next thing I want to know is, when are we going to get an offensive coach that knows how to run an offense, at lease as good as my 8 year old, grand-son??? Les, you need to pull a Donald Trump on your offensive coordinator & tell him, “YOU’RE FIRED!!!”
Same old, same old. I believe in loyalty but not stupidity. I have seen every game and not much changed during the season in so far as improvements. After three sacks anyone that knows anything about football could easily see that Mett needed to be told to step up in the pocket. Look at the tape and see what I mean. Where in the hell is Strud and Craithorpe. What do they do during the game? Mett has a good arm but no touch, can’t complete the long balls and those that he did only a couple were on the money, the receviers made adjustments on most of them. He really can’t throw on the run. So far as play selection, I rest my case. Look at the stats. LSU did not deserve to wine this game but should have. My prediction as Les’s luck is starting to run out on him and with the SEC west going to be even stronger next year and you can bet based on Miles’ prior philosphy, Mett will play every game. this guy is not a true freshman. Look around the country and see how many other freshman qbs were outstanding. Next year could be bad.
the sad thing is this: look at the spread teams that are successful: why? qb’s can run and throw. We had two of these–Shepherd and McGee. Lord only know what was the problem with Shepherd since he came to LSU but McGee-now I can comment on him, I seen him singlehandely beat three very good Salmen High-Slidell- good footballs, This young man can really run the spread. Problem: I don’t thing Strudrawa can draw one play run out of the spread. this year LSU really only beat two teams -Washington and Miss.St.–struggled with all the rest including Idaho State and Towson. If Towson’s qb could have passed they would have lost that game, he had people open all night and couldn”t hit them.
Next yr: could be dismal to say the least. Departure of Mingo, Montgomery, Minter, and Reid could prove fatal for a “young defense”.
Now I just have to get through the winter.
Truth is, Miles is a mediocre coach, at best.
Considering all the injuries, etc to the OL this year, LSU performed quite well considering it is in the toughest division, in the toughest league in the country.
Sure, Im disappointed we missed the NC game by a drive or two but thats life.
I dont feel as though coaching or the lack thereof cost us the 2 losses, tho the soft, prevent D used against Bama makes you wonder.
With FL, we just didnt show up.
We were fortunate to be in the Clemson game as long as we were, our Offense
was very offensive, thanks in part by questionable play calling.
I only have 2 questions about the game.
Why did a rb who had 124 yds on 12 carries(one was lenghty) not carry the ball
in the 4th qtr; tho he ws on the field?
When it was under 2 min and we had 2nd and 2 and 3rd and 2; why do we all of
a sudden become a passing team and no attempt at a run?
What did LM mean when he said, they had the numbers so we had to pass?
Im totally confused by us not running at least once. Last year thats all we did even
when everyone thought we should pass?
We need an OC or you can wash your hands with this team ever getting any better than 10-3 or 9-4.
We will struggle against everyone except for La Tech and ULL.
les miles is an idiot for a coach and must leave with offensive coordinator.
Norma: “Well, maybe loosing to Clemson is not as bad as Louisville and getting beat bad.
Glad we did not play Louisville.
Maybe the talking heads really don’t know how to rank these Teams. We should not listen to them know matter what they say.
Florida is number 3!
Louisville is number 21?
You have to question this so called system.”
Tinker Town: “That was a big surprise how Louisville was out playing Florida throughout the entire football game. Obviously the ranking system. as you said, Florida is number 3! Louisville is number 21? is flawed big time…Good bye horses,”
Wow!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db4Nds4BOVo
How quickly we forget that LSU went an astounding 13 & 0 before losing in the national championship game. Research how many CFB teams can lay claim to that same productivity. Truth is a change is needed on offensive side and I believe most if not all will agree. Now is the time for Miles to again act as the head coach and make a decision that is best for the team. Remember a couple years back Alabama lost 3 games during regular season including 1 to LSU to finish overall season with same record as LSU. As was the case when Miles needed to correct things on defensive side when he brought in chavis (pretty discreetly in the beginning of the transition I might add) let’s have faith he will come through again as that is what we should do since we have no control in the matter. Geaux Tigers
It is brutal watching LSU on offense. The bowl games are proving you won’t win with only a great defense. Next year will be the same if we don’t have a Mobile QB. Our Sceam is horrible. We won the turnover and kicking game. That alone should be enough to win. The good thing about the loss is Les Miles has to make changes with the offense. Had we won the game I don’t think anything would have changed. Tiger fans won’t tolerate losing to teams we are favorited over.
The next few weeks will be very interesting.
The next few weeks will Probably Not be interesting, Sorry……..
One of you were probably correct, his luck seems to be decreasing
each year.
Strudrawa needs a demotion back to OL coach.
Release Craithorpe to retirement.
And IF they hire a new and supposedly intelligent OC, Miles better
NOT interfere with his processing of the offense or it will be all to
waste…..
QB MUST learn how to throw a football while rolling out of pocket and
maybe take some dancing lessons on how to move those poor clods
he runs around on.
WR’s must learn from a better-than-they-have receiver’s coach how to
catch balls, how to run routes correctly AND how to block for their
team-mates.
And having at least one running back with the ability to shift his feet
quickly and avoid unwanted contact, aka two players going on to play
Pro Ball with the Saints and the New England Patriots. The backs are
almost exact duplicates of their selves, straight one-direction momentum
types.
Please, Miles take care of a ‘few’ of these areas, at least!!!!!!!!!
Please!!!!!!!!!!
