SEC Baseball Round-up
Alabama’s Dugas, LSU’s Bonvillain recognized by the SEC

Lafayette native Taylor Dugas has had a tremendous career in Crimson and Cream at Alabama.
And his senior season is only adding to his legacy.
His 14th career triple Friday night broke Alabama’s all-time record, and he’s currently tied with Dave Magadan for the most doubles in school history with 64.
In Alabama’s sweep of rival Auburn this past weekend, Dugas hit 6-for-13 including a walkoff home run in Saturday’s 4-3 victory. Add a 3-for-4 mark versus South Alabama earlier in the Week, and Dugas took home SEC Co-Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career, sharing this week’s distinction with Luke Maile of Kentucky.
On a hot streak, the Louisiana native will return to his home state this week for one game against Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday and three versus LSU this weekend.
Despite the sweep this weekend, Alabama is still tied for last place in the SEC with Vanderbilt at 4-8. In Baton Rouge this weekend, the Tide will take on a Bayou Bengal squad that just took two of three from previously top-ranked Florida and boasts the current SEC Pitcher of the Week, Brent Bonvillain.
The first-year Tiger had pitched just six innings this season entering this week. Then he pitched two innings versus Louisiana College last Tuesday night surrendering one run before he was dominant in four scoreless innings in Saturday’s win over Florida. He picked up the win in both games.
The Tigers are in sole possession of second place in the SEC at 8-4, trailing only Kentucky.
The Cats (9-3) took two of three from Ole Miss to continue to prove that they are for real. Arkansas and LSU in the next two weekends won’t be easy, however. The aforementioned Maile, by the way, hit 8-for-17 with 20 total bases in four games this week en route to Co-Player of the Week honors in the SEC.
Also around the league, South Carolina continues its climb out of the cellar of the league and is at 5-7 after taking two of three from Tennessee. That places them two games behind Florida for second in the East and one game ahead of Vandy and Alabama for last in the East as well as the league as a whole.
The SEC race continues to look like it will be a jumbled fight to the finish with 16-18 wins being enough to secure an NCAA Tournament bid (assuming that team took care of business in non-conference play). Boy, the SEC Tournament is going to be great.
Here’s the current standings four weeks in with six weeks to go. Below that is last week’s results and this week’s schedule for all 12 SEC schools. All times are Central Time.
