LSU adds new, physical drill called the Tiger Attack

We’re winding down the spring out there on the Ponderosa. The Tigers were back out for the first time since Saturday morning’s scrimmage.

The usuals were out- Tahj Jones, Chancey Aghayere and Terrence Magee. Ford wore green.

Craig Loston was not out there today, and he’s not going to play in the spring game. Yes, it’s a meaningless game, but I think the staff would have liked Loston out there in front of a few thousand people playing some safety. Micah Eugene was runing in that spot. I think he and Ronald Martin are right about even. They have different skill sets, Eugene being quicker and the more aggressive tackler. Martin is the rangier, more athletic option.

It’s obvious that Tyrann’s injury isn’t serious. He was out there in purple today running at full speed.

The two most physical drills were the usual Big Cat and a version of the Oklahoma Drill called the Tiger Attack.

The high point of the Big Cat was Ronnie Feist, again, laying the lumber. He drove Kenny Hilliard’s 240 lbs back about 5 yards and dropped him.

The Tiger Attack was a 25 yard version including three separate individual blockers. It was all DBs, but the entire defense was gathered around. Sam Montgomery was yelling the entire time, and the group enjoyed it. The young DBs were on display.

Ronnie Vinson got stoned by Tyrann Mathieu on the first go round which really ticked John Chavis off. That, in turn, got to Vinson. He ran through the group the second time, leveling Rocky Duplessis on the way to the dummy sack.

Micah Eugene showed a relentless attack through all three blockers, and Jalen Collins showed why he may be the most physical DB on the roster. He knocked Tyrann’s helmet off.

I watched the quarterbacks work with the tight ends, and the arms looked pretty good. Rivers missed a couple of throws, and the tight ends added their usual dosage of drops. None of those guys have great hands, and they’re not going to catch one too far from the numbers.

The Tigers are back at it Thursday before the Spring Game Saturday.

It looks like another two team run to the top again for the Alabama crimson tide & LSU tigers.
