Who stood out one week before the Spring Game?

By HUNT PALMER
BBI Senior Writer

Editor’s note: The Tigers scrimmaged for more than 100 snaps in Tiger Stadium on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. Les Miles met with the media for about 15 minutes, and here were some of the nuggets Hunt Palmer got.

- The scrimmage focused on 1st and 10, and 3rd down. They also did some red zone work.

- Tyrann Mathieu was held out of action due to a sore ankle. Doesn’t sound serious. Jalen Collins took his reps and Miles said the youngster played well

- P.J. Lonergan, who missed practice on Thursday, did not participate.

- Tahj Jones was not in action, and Miles said his spring is likely done.

- Miles was pleased with the quarterback play. He told us Zach Mettenberger completed 16 of 25 for 177 yards and 3 touchdowns, all in the red zone.

- Stephen Rivers went 6 of 12 for 60 yards and a touchdown.

- Odell Beckham led the way for the receivers, catching 5 balls for 50 yards. Jarvis Landry chipped in with 3 catches of his owqn for 50 yards. While he didn’t give any stats, Miles mentioned James Wright’s progress. Sounds like the junior is turning the corner a bit.

- Chase Clement caught a touchdown pass

- Kadron Boone has had his collar bone repaired and will miss the rest of spring.

The rushing numbers really jumped out today.
Ware- 12 for 90 yards
Hilliard- 13 for 60 yards
Hill 10 for 56 yards
Blue 10 for 67 yards
Ford was held out due the knee operation he had.

“The 287 rushing yards was not an indication as to how the defense played but more of an indication of the fact that we have good running backs. I think our defensive front is playing well and we made some big plays on that side of the ball.” - Miles

Miles said the defense recorded six sacks, some on minor blitzes and some on solid push rushes.

He also voiced some displeasure about pre-snap penalties, some by the veterans. He said it was something they’d have to clean up.

LSU will go back to work Tuesday and Thursday before finishing the spring with the National L Club Spring Game next Saturday.

    Enter “Zach Mettenberger who completed 16 of 25 for 177 yards and 3 touchdowns, all in the red zone.” I think that our prayers has been granted from above. And because of some very good hard recruiting work by the LSU coaching staff. For this very next year. G e a u x T i g e r s, f i g h t, f i g h t, f i g h t.

Got something to say?
