Twenty years, already?
Time flies almost like LSU and Loyola Marymount in 1990

I don’t know what kind of basketball game you’ll see this afternoon when LSU plays Kentucky in the PMAC. I don’t know what will happen Sunday in Super Bowl XLIV, when the New Orleans Saints - is that a misprint? - play the Indianapolis Colts.
I do know the exciting, high-speed connection to the past awaiting you in the next paragraph, which can transport you back 20 years, to when LSU defeat the run-and-gun Loyola Marymount basketball team with Bo Kimble and the late Hank Gathers, 148-141 in overtime.
LSU posted the link to let fans remember the amazing game and celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Were you there? Did you watch on TV? Did you listen on radio? Were you too young to be aware of it? Had you been born yet?
The game was so long ago, Hawthorne referred to LSU’s big man in the middle by his last name, O’Neal. For all I know, there are kids today who don’t know the former LSU center by anything other than Shaq, so it probably sounds a bit odd to them.
I doubt today you’ll see anything remotely resembling the competitive fever pitch and electric pace of this game. Did I say electric? The motor in the play-by-play typewriter at courtside burned up before halftime, and LSU had to bring in another typewriter.
It’s probably the best basketball game you’ll see today, although you might see a national championship team this afternoon at the PMAC. Kudos to LSU for posting the video. It’s worth a second look, and definitely worth a first if you’ve never watched it before.
Enjoy.
