Four-star CB Christian Williams picks Miami over LSU; Four-star DE Byron Young doesn’t flip

There’s certainly better ways to begin National Signing Day.

Four-star cornerback Christian Williams did flip from his Alabama commitment, as was expected, but he chose Miami over LSU at a signing ceremony on Wednesday morning.

Williams is regarded as the nation’s No. 20 cornerback prospect and the No. 7 player in the state of Alabama, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Though he committed to Alabama last spring, the buzz has been that the two sides drifted apart after Williams didn’t sign during the early period.

LSU was seen as the leader in his recruitment from that point on, but Miami made a late push to sign him away. The Hurricanes had signed just one defensive back heading into Wednesday.

This leaves LSU with three cornerbacks who signed early: Derek Stingley Jr., Cordale Flott and Raydarious Jones. LSU commit Maurice Hampton will announce his final decision a bit later on this morning.

Elsewhere in the Southeast, LSU was unable to flip four-star defensive end and Alabama commitment Byron Young. He showed up to his announcement ceremony in an Alabama shirt and signed.

The two schools will go head to head over another blue chip defensive lineman later on today when Amite star Ishmael Sopsher announces his decision at 12:45 p.m.
