The LSU football team concluded its final spring practice Thursday in preparation for Saturday’s Spring Game.

The Tigers spent the majority of Thursday’s session splitting up the rosters into the White team and the Purple team.

Head coach Les Miles said following Thursday’s practice he was very pleased with the progress of his team during the four-week period.

“We were giving awards today in the meeting. We were talking about most improved, and there are just so many guys that are really improved that it was hard to come up with ones,” said the coach.

The Spring Game will be televised by ESPN, and it will start at 3 p.m. Saturday.

“Our guys love playing on television,” said Miles. “It gives an air of a big game and a want to play better, and I think it’s good.”

The first half will be timed like an actual football game, while the second half will be running clock with some situational work.

The coach said all three quarterbacks, Jordan Jefferson, Zach Mettenberger and Jarrett Lee, have improved this spring

“[Jefferson] is really taking coaching, and he’s just a more complete quarterback,” said Miles.

Additionally, the coach enjoys what he has seen out of Mettenberger and Lee.

“I think Zach certainly is improving in knowledge of his play but his throws are really good. I can see where he can take some strides this summer and really be in a position to compete in the fall,” said the coach. “I feel the same way about Lee. Lee has had a very good spring. He’s making his case for playing time as well.”

All three quarterbacks will be on display Saturday. Jefferson is slated to play for the Purple team. Lee will play for the White team, and Mettenberger will switch teams.

A total of 15 Tigers will miss Saturday’s Spring Game due to injuries.

Brandon Taylor, Stefoin Francois, Karnell Hatcher, Michael Ford, J.C. Copeland, Josh Dworaczyk, Josh Downs, Chase Clement, Lavar Edwards and Sam Montgomery are among potential starters who will miss Saturday’s game.

Miles said all 15 will be fully healthy by June at the latest.
